Since Usher and his ex-wife, Tameka Raymond parted ways, Usher has been pretty much mum about their relationship. No matter what Tameka said or did, we barely heard from Usher and it seemed like Tameka had issues. Anyways, their messy custody battle is over and Usher now has primary custody of their kids and finally Usher has decided to talk about their relationship. He sat down with Oprah for Oprah's Next Chapter and talked about his relationship with Tameka, his mom and his children. This is a summary of the interview:
- Although some people supported his decision to get married to Tameka, lots of people told him not to get married.
- Before he got married, he felt like he was not ready and he said "maybe that led to the demise" of the relationship. Even though he felt like he didn't want to get married, he wanted to give Tameka the wedding she wanted.
- His mother didn't think his relationship with Tameka would work.
- He fired his mom during that time because she didn't accept his relationship with Tameka and he felt that their business relationship could not continue because it was tricky to have a business relationship with his mom when the foundation of their family was shaken.
- He finally realized that his marriage would not last before Tameka had their second child because she was not coping well with being married to Usher and all that it entailed and also dealing with the responsibility of marriage. They tried hard to make it work by talking to friends and going to counselling.
- He was not completely faithful to Tameka while they were still married.
- The rumors about his dalliance or whatever with one of Tameka's bridemaids is true. (I don't know what the rumors were).
- He was at his step-son's funeral and burial. He misses Kyle.
- He cried on the witness stand during custody proceedings because he had buried his emotions for so long that he got buried in the moment.
- He believes that not having a father is not a reason not to be a good father - it's "all of the reason to be a good father" because he didn't have a father.
- He makes love to his music.
- He trusts his mother and his children. He didn't mention anyone else.
Usher on evolving:
You either evolve or evaporate. If you don't evolve, you dissolve. You become a thing of the past if you don't allow yourself to be part of evolution.
BTW, you can catch Oprah's Next Chapter on OWN on Sundays.
Have a great week, guys!
